I beleive the "secret" is using heat when forming the main landing gear  "spring".   I used heat when I scratch built my 701, after 4 years and  some "not so nice" landings--- the gear looked the same as the day it was  made.

Fritz,  Can you elaborate on the method you  used when bending the gear with heat?  Temp sticks? What was your  procedure?
