Does anyone fly with half-doors on their MkIII? I've got full doors
but am considering removing them and putting half-doors on, so I get
an unobscured view for photography purposes. But I'm wondering about
it's affect on, well, everything.

Are you referring to half up or half back?
I was still flying my mkIII as of last fall with no doors.
-aside from being a little chilly when the thermometer drops
there were no adverse effects.
I'm thinking about half (up) doors that I can put hingeing windows on.
Then on a hot day I can fold them outboard and down the side.

Interesting idea about the "half-up"... I was thinking only about
"half-back" since that is how I operated on a RANS S-12XL that I owned
a few years ago. Wouldn't a "half-up" end up getting your head
blasted by the wind? My idea was to cut the doors back to about 4
inches in front of where my elbow normally rests. That would allow me
to lean back just a bit and my camera would be clear of the door.
Good to know, though, that you've flown it without any doors at all.

Doesn't Bro Pike have half doors???
I believe that there was a gent with a Mark III on floats that did
what you are talking about, half back..

I did have the half doors, and still put them back on in the summer when
it is warm. They work very well, great for photography. With no doors,
you get a lot of wind through the cockpit, sort of like flying in a
hurricane. With half doors, there is minimal wind, it is very pleasant.

This picture also shows the first attempt at a shorty windshield which
stops just about even with the forehead, which lets more air flow to the
prop, and improves both the climb rate and allows reduced rpm's at
cruise speed. The only disadvantage to this arrangement is that it is
not optimal for cold air flying. My current arrangement lets me have my
cake and eat it too - better airflow and also fully enclosed when desired.
