Has anyone out there used, or know the pros and cons of using  the ANR conversion kit from http://www.anr-headsets.com/Html_folder/ANRKits.html ?  $169.00 to convert to ANR.

Esteemed One!

 

 I have done four converts with their units, two in David Clarks and two in helmets. They work great, never failed, no problems. Its been about four and five years now.  Of course they are not Bose but then... They do have a slight amount of background hiss, but slight as I said.  I researched this before I did the next two and found this is a common problem unless you are spending the big dollars.  It has never bothered me as I am hearing voices anyway.  Hopefully the pink elephants will stop talking soon.

 One thing I did do is put a dab of silicone on the small wires on where they are soldered to the circuit boards, as I did break one off installing once. So just sercured them here and there for the future.

Doug,

  

 I have seen the kits and they are not bad and  appear fairly easy to install.  I have talked to people who have used them  and the biggest problem seems to be the quality of the original headset they  converted.  If it wasn't a good passive set it didn't work out to be a  great ANR set.  As the prices of the ANR sets are coming down somewhat and  the current economic situation, it may be worth while to try and deal with your  favorite supplier.

Hi Doug

 I have that system in 2 helmets and a Dave Clark  headset and it works great in my T-6. It's almost overkill in the CJ. I would go  with the manufacturer in TX. your listed outfit is a distributor. I have gotten  great service including free replacement parts from them. It is  headsetsinc.com.

Works great and doesn't take very long to install the  conversion.  Maybe less than 2 hours if you do a really neat job.  You  will definitely need a "pencil" soldering iron to do it properly.

I have that particular anr in use for years and it works  fine. This anr is also sold as an optional item when you purchase a  helmet from Flight Suits, the place where I got mine.

 I can recommend this anr. I also installed the little power  supplies in my Yak52 and they work fine.

Thanks to all that responded with info about the ANR conversion, ordered three sets today.  I may do my HGU55 later if this works out well.  The Yak list is a great tool.

I've been researching the different ANR options as well, and one thing I found is that if you can hold out until OSH (and providing you're there), Headsets, Inc. has a pretty decent show price.  



They also mentioned to me last year that if I called within a month or so after the show and mentioned that I talked with them at OSH I could still get the discount.

I have used this ANR kit in the past (retrofitted it into my helmet) and it worked well.  In the past couple of years however, I have switched to C.E.P (Communication Ear Protection) that in my experience is superior to ANR.  The C.E.P is primarily used in very high noise environment such as Helicopters and includes a set of mini-transducers that are connected (in parallel) to the standard helmet earphone via a short pigtail.  The transducer is embedded in a standard ear noise-protection foam plug with a tiny canal that bring the audio straight to you eardrum while blocking the damaging noise.  Much simpler to hook up than ANR, no need for a power source and healthier to the ear than any ANR not to mention the bottom line of very loud, clear and noise free audio (cheaper too).
