Just an update on the missing problem with my 912S. Since the list has been too quiet lately…..
I replaced two loose sparkplug caps and like John guessed this did not solve the problem. I drained the gas – which may have been winter formula and more prone to vapor lock than summer formula gas and this did not solve the problem. Lockwood said that since I had over 200 hours on the carbs that I should rebuild them just for that reason if no other reason. I got a rebuild kit for $45 and rebuilt the carbs and that seems to have solved the problem.
So rebuild your carbs if you have over 200 hours on them. I suspect that the new o-rings are more compatible with ethanol. (For the obvious question – no, to the best of my knowledge, there has never been any ethanol in my fox.)
I didn’t find anything real obvious while rebuilding, but I am happy to have the engine purring again.
