I disassembled the engine but did not split the case.
Don't have the very expensive tools to do so.
I cleaned all I could get to using carb cleaner and it
did a very good job removing the gunk. Except for the stuck
bottom ring - that required soaking for 2 days. I was very careful
not to let the carb cleaner stay very long in the crankcase
so as not to swell up the o-rings. The gunk in the crankcase
dissolved very quickly. I cleaned out the card cleaner using
WD40 I didn't want to use water due to the rust possibility.
The pistons in the carbs were stuck so solid that I had to use
force to remove them.
The carbs cleaned up like new in carb cleaner.
Every thing I inspected was normal with no wear. Oil in RV
and gear box was full and very clean. All on/off valves and
quick drains were stuck also. The tanks look clean and
no evidence of the kreem pealing.
Which makes me think that the gas was the culprit.
As many of you thought also.
I reassembled the engine and started it today.
Started with no problem and ran smoothly.
Egt's seemed normal but water temp gage is not working.
Oh well.....but I am still happy to have it running again -
now back to taxi testing and getting ready for first flight.
Thank you all for your helpful comments - what a great
group to be a part of.

Cecil,
I wouldn't fly on that crankshaft now for all the tea in China.
