<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> At long last, I received my nitrided crank back from Nitron. I sent it UPS on May 2, he got it on May 6, and I got it back July 20, 11 weeks later. Pradom is a nice guy to talk to, and very helpful, but if you're going to send him your crank, plan for a whole lot of lead time. BTW, I now have a wooden crate available for the price of shipping. Weighs 11 pounds, 38.5 with crank in it. The check to Nitron was $286 for nitriding and return, and the price out was $38 from KCMO to Lowell Mass.
Now off to Oshkosh to seek wisdom from Corvair-Sensei.

Paul,
That's great news. Now on with the build? Are you going with a 5th bearing?

For what it's worth, 11 weeks is extremely quick turnaround.
I'm sure a lot of guys wish all the engine parts they ordered came that fast...

<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> I'm going to pass on the fifth bearing. Nice as it would be, from what I've gathered, the additional expense isn't justified by the way I fly. And, with a nice light prop, you won't likely put a lot of side load on the crank nose. There are so many out there flying for years without it, that I feel pretty safe as is. (my bone frame has been subjected to so much cumulative overstress that my design load is now +- 2G, and my ultimate load is +-3G)
