I have a question regarding oil mixture 2 cycle for 503. I use Pennzoil 2 cycle air cooled pre mix at 50-1 ratio...my question is this....if a person increased the percentage of oil to the mixture and say ran a 40-1 ratio would the engine run cooler or would there be no change in engine temps? Reason for this question is that I have a friend who runs a 503 with oil injection and his temps run a bit high...he has carb set up correctly, checked everything we can think of, loaded the prop correctly and that is why I was wondering if his oil to gas mixture was correct and hence the question. His temps for both cht and egt are both in the high operating range. thanks in advance. Jswan

The more oil you use, you slowly lean out the fuel. It will run hotter as you continue to add more oil because the number one cooling before your air cooling is the fuel. You can add enough oil to seize an engine not to mention foul it badly. Remember Rotax has 20-30 years experience and the reason for most engine failures is the owner trying to be the Mfg or know more than all their millions spent testing and years of experience. You may however need to richen the fuel delivery in your case. Small adjustments will produce better and more accurate results. EGT's are usually controlled by fuel if everything else is as it is supposed to be. Leave the oil to 50:1 as there is nothing to be gained at 40:1, but possibly other headaches down the road.

Agree with Roger, 50:1 is the correct ratio. I believe the oil injection runs 50:1 at high throttle settings, but leans the mix out a bit at low throttle to idle, approaching 70:1. You don't need as much oil at the lower power settings.
If you really want to troubleshoot the oil injection as the culprit, you could try disabling it (i.e. pull out the plastic drive gear that fits into the end of the crank and plugging the intake ports) and running 50:1 premix.
Too much oil leans the mixture as Roger says, because you have less fuel per unit and more oil. It's as bad as not enough oil....
