Hi guys
I just got back from OSH, man it was a good week...near perfect weather except a little damp a couple days. Huge turnout. I had a great week; I think everybody did. The Zenith booth looked to be busy every time I went by, especially the 750. Roger was his usual courteous self...nice folks.
Not to beat a dead horse here, but I had an email from a lister when I got home, asking questions about vgs on his plane, which is a VW powered with open cowling, and other differences from my plane. I wanted to resay that anything I have offered about my experience with vgs pertains to my plane only. There are so many differences in the finished planes that what worked on mine might not on yours. I just don't have any idea how a vw plane would perform with vgs, what with all the possible variations in weight, cg etc. I would think the results would be favorable...but just don't have any experience with anything but my particular Rotax bird. You have to find out about yours.
As I think I stated way back a year or so ago, when passing along my test results, I found that placement of the vgs was important. I tried them at 12% and 10% and found that to be too far back. At extreme AOA, the vgs would "uncover" and the wing would stall, or get into a high drag situation which took a while to accelerate out of. I then placed them at 8% and haven't been able to make them uncover there, and that is where I left them. That was the only downside I found...and the 8% position fixed that... for me.
FWIW
