Hi all.
Anyone out there have any experience or advice with regards to installing oil control rings in the standard CJ6 engine?
I understand that there are suitable rings out there being used in the M-14 and the results are vastly reduced oil burns.
Cheers, Jay

Jay,
I think what you may be referring to are some of the modifications being done to M-14's where the pistons AND the rings are being replaced. In this case, the new piston design has tighter tolerances and uses "gapless rings" which results in greatly reduced oil burn.
Not aware of anyone using a stock piston and just replacing the rings with a newer type.
Also not aware of anyone putting major redesign effort into the Housai, although the same concept would surely work.
Best Regards,

Mark/Jay,I am in the process of installing the total seal rings on stock pistons in a factory new HS6A engine (yes, factory new), this is a on going "winter" project so I seriously doubt that I will have any word on the results until next spring. Now that I'm not killing flowers any longer it seems that there are just too many fly ins and fish to catch in the summer months, Yes I know, my job is a bugger, but somebody has to do it.
Best,
Doug

Mark,
I have had Total Seal rings in my Housai for over a year but they are on
higher compression pistons. Dee Grim has also installed same rings in a
Housai which should be running this month. Bill Blackwell can provide
pistons and rings.

Gill:
Tell us more about the Total Seal rings on the Housai! What compression are the pistons? What is your fuel burn? What is your oil burn? What HP are you putting out? What do you see as aircraft performance changes (better climb, shorter t/o, etc)?
Thanks in advance!
