Has anyone had any trouble positioning the firewall before fitting the engine mount. The top at the cabin frame and the bottom at the extrusions are set, leaving the two side ones to worry about. I wish to keep working at the fuse, not having an engine mount at this time. Thanks

I built my firewall before having the engine mount and regret it.
If you have the mount then you can use it to sanity check the position of the lower frame rails and the nose gear shelf.
In my case I had to do some slight repositioning and trimming to get everything to fit just right.
If you have access to another builder's engine mount then try to borrow it, otherwise I would order it/fabricate it first.

Sorry I was not very clear on this. I am talking about the location of the firewall in respect to the 2 side skins. Once all the holes are drilled in the side skin at the firewall rivet line it will be positioned, possibly incorrectly. Thanks

I built the firewall before I had the mount and for the most part everything worked out pretty well. I did have to do a fair amount of trimming on the bottom lugs of the engine mount (the new-style ring mount) to get them to fit between the rails, and had to make shims to fit underneath the rails to take up the slack. I suspect thats pretty normal. The other points on the mount fit fine without adjustment.
All else being equal, if you know what engine you're going to use I'd go ahead and get the mount now. It will come in handy again when you mate the forward fuselage to the back half. If that's a problem, forge ahead without it.

I purchased the mount for a 912 before starting on the firewall setup. Two years later I purchased the firewall FWD package minus the mount.....Geoff
