Dear Listers,

I've got the control cable going to the Governor working well and the routing under the engine nicely aligned so that it doesn't touch the sump. I've got a question regarding the control throw limits, though. Right now at HIGH RPM, the control on the Governor is hitting the stop as it should. No problem there. However, on full LOW RPM, I'm about 1/8" away from hitting the stop on the Governor. I've fiddled around with the available adjustments 'til I'm blue in the face and I just can't get that last little bit of LOW. Given the angle of the bracket, its kind of a pull backwards for the pushrod so its just never really going to work with the current bracket. My question is this: Does it really matter? When what the last time anyone actually had full LOW RPM setting?

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Matt,
Max full low RPM shouldn't be an issue. Can't think of a time I have ever
used it. But, have you tried using the inboard hole on the governor arm?

Matt,

It appears in the pictures that you might be able to move the connection
at the governor arm inboard to the hole closer to the governor shaft
and thus gain more rotation angle for full travel from stop to stop of
the governor.

There is one situation when having full travel to max prop pitch can be
important and is very useful if you lose engine power and need to extend
your glide. The difference between high versus low pitch can be several
hundred feet per minute less sink rate by pulling the prop control full
aft if the engine is still windmilling. Normally, the engine oil
pressure will be sufficient when windmilling to hold the prop in max
pitch for this purpose.
