Hello Everyone,
I have been working on my dash area lately and I thought that I'd share my results. I am pretty happy with how my plan for this area has turned out.
I wanted to finish the sharp edge with a piece of coping but didn't want the black on painted aluminum look so I called in my upholstery guy and we put our heads together. The result was a three piece marine vinyl covering that covers the top, front edge and bottom of the dash area as well as the sides of the upper cowl as they go vertical at the sides.
I decided that I wanted some protection on the front edge of the aluminum so we installed a .500 wide piece of coping along he whole front edge. We then wrapped the vinyl around the coping to give it a bulkier look.
At the same time, I fashioned an instrument fairing from a Styrofoam plug and had it covered with the vinyl as well. As you can see, the instrument fairing houses my angle of attack display and buttons as well as the compass. I placed these instruments here so that the angle of attack display is as close as possible to my line of site. I wanted it in my peripheral just outside of my line of sight.
The last photo is of the fan covers I had laser cut. These worked out very well and with the padding afforded by the vinyl and the under pad I was able to have these drawn down flush to the top of the surrounding vinyl surface.
The devil is truly in the details but it sure feels good to take a concept and make it into reality.

That looks awesome! Nice idea on the fairing, nice work, congrats.
What a great place to hide those 'hockey puck' GPS antennas.
