I have a KitFox Model IV, with a Rotax 582 and have noticed a high-pitched whistling type noise emanating from under the hood. It's not terribly loud and has a bell's tonal quality. The frequency does not change at different rpm settings, it only get somewhat louder. In other words, the cycle, or pitch of the noise doesn't change with different power settings.
I have listened to it also with the upper cowling removed and both doors off tryng to determine if it is caused by prop blast blowing through an opening or hole. It's hard to pinpoint where it's coming from, but it seems to be strongest on the right side (while seated on the left).
If anyone else has experienced this type of thing before, or has any ideas, I would like to hear from them. I won't be flying it until I can figure this out!

It will go much faster if you have the old wind shield for a pattern. The originals come as a piece of lexan 48 inches by about 49 inches. There is a rough outline on them to get you started. You cut out the outline then try it, cut some more, try it, cut some more...

Malcolm. Sorry this is late. I just got this e-mail a few minutes ago. I bought poly-carbonate from McMaster-Carr company. This is an industrial supply company. They had UPS deliver me a full sheet of Poly-carb in a blinding snow storm. Great company to deal with. Hope this helps-Tom

Here is some information on the windshields. It is not specific to the model 2 but will probably help with your install.

Keep in mind that the Lowes, Home Depot material is glazing for windows. I
think it is .090. I have always used the .063 or what ever it is and that
is only available in a plastics shop or online. If you are in California
there is a family owned company that sells Polycarbonate. They are also
online - Tap Plastics.

Polycarbonate is polycarbonate. Lexan is a good brand. Rhino is another. I
have used both. They come in various thicknesses. Larry

Mal,

Buy locally if you can. The shipping on a full sheet of Lexan (half-sheet is not enough) will eat you alive. Because of it's size many suppliers ship only by common carrier. When I checked, freight to Mich was more than the cost of the Lexan. Wound up bying from John McBean. He sells a piece just big enough with pattern traced on. Cut it with tin snips and installation is a snap. No heat required.

Good luck.

Watch what you get from home depot. I was looking for lexan at the local HD and all they had was acetate. Great for building aquariums, but sucks for windshields. Will not cut with tin snips as it is too brittle, and will shatter instead of cracking and breaking.

Last time I ordered it from A.S. they rolled it up and put it in a shipping tube for me. I think a sheet, shipped to my house in AK using priority mail was 120.00. The supplier that is 150 miles away from me wanted 180 bucks a sheet and I had to drive up to go get it.
