Hello everyone! This is my first post to this list. I'm adding a couple radios to my BD4 that I purchased recently and have a question about a piece of equipment I found under the panel.
I’m trying to find out the amperage throughput capacity of a Hisonic radio frequency interference filter. I’m adding a couple radios to my panel and based on their circuit breaker requirement rating I’m guessing could add about 15 amps to the avionics side of the buss bringing the total max load to around 25A. The way the plane is currently wired all the power for the avionics is fed through an old Hisonic RFI 40 Radio Frequency Interference Filter. I’m having trouble finding much info on the filter. Looks like Cessna used these at one point. My plane does also currently have an alternator filter like this one.

Unfortunately, I purchased the plane w/out being able to test fly it and as such I’m not sure if there is extra alternator noise in the plane or if this was just added for more assurance. What I’d really like to know is how many amps this unit can handle and if I should leave it in or take it out. I suppose that it’s unlikely the filter will see 25A max draw ever as both COM radios, one VOR nav, and a transponder would hall have to be transmitting simultaneously to even get close to max amp draw.
I’m just concerned that I could have a single failure point lurking here. I have a feeling these aren’t used much any more since I can’t find many available. Though aircraftspruce does have a couple models for sale. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/lonestarFilter70amp.php?recfer=2351 1
Are you guys using these or is it more just old school gear that isn’t used anymore?
Thanks,
Will
