All the discussion about fuel filters got me started thinking of doing something new for Zulu Delta. We're having a spate of thunderstorms every day for the next week so I decided yesterday to just get on with it. I cut the filter stem to get it started and played around on Acad last night to figure out how things would fit. I decided on a left hand thread to attach the bowl so I wouldn't be feeding into a shoulder. 1 5/8-20 isn't exactly a common thread so I had to get out the thread wires and remember how to use them. It's been a quarter century since I last pulled them out of the drawer (now there's a way to make yourself feel old). Calculation said I needed 1.6262" over the wires to get the pitch diameter I wanted. The flash obscured the lines on the mic's barrel but if you look close you can see it reads .6259" (it's a 1" to 2" mic). -.0003" ain't too shabby. Off to grind a tool to cut the O-ring groove.
