Had my fixed pitch GSC prop for almost 20 yrs of on/off flying on my model 2 without a problem. Decided to go ahead and send it to GSC(Canada) for overhaul. Personnel there were very friendly and prompt with not only individual service but extra help that I didn't ask for.
Besides overhauling and refinishing it to such a beautiful state that I was reluctant to hang it on the plane and ruin the beauty of it, they changed it to a ground adjustable prop (at) no extra charge except for the little $15 protractor to adjust it. Original prop was (at) 10 deg pitch. New one, adjusted to 11.5 deg pitch completely changed the airplane.
Cruise is up from 65 to 75 mph. EGT and coolant temps are down. And (paradoxically) climb performance is improved too. My kids, watching me fly around the pattern, say the plane sounds completely different too since the rpms's are reduced with the higher pitch prop.
Very satisfied with GSC. Know there are some stories about problems with their props separating (at) the hub but I've nad no such problems and their personalized service was very refreshing.
BTW, the overhaul including sanding, balancing, refinishing, and modifiying the hub for variable pitch was $150.
