Hello,
I am about to take my plane to a paint shop and have it painted. I need to take the wings off for transport. I intend to leave the struts attached to each wing during the paint job. I would like to pose a question: barring any mishap, will there be any issues when I put the wings back on? What I am asking is will the wings require "re-rigging"? Will the paint change the flight characteristics of the plane?

Any pointers are appreciated. I am a competent mechanic, but I did not build the plane.

Thanks in advance

GREETINGS,

I recently finished the build on mt 701. During the build process and the move to the airport, I installed and removed the wings (completely by myself) several times. I built some cheap wing stands out of 2X4s to support the wings at the proper height next to the fuselage.

Drain all the fuel first. I recommend removing the struts from the wings. It only takes about ten minutes per side. This will make handling the wing much easier and less prone to damage. Mark the struts for location for ease of assembly.

If the mounting holes were drilled properly there should be little concern for re-rigging. I would pull measurements from the trailing edge at the outboard ends to the rudder stops before removing the wings just in case there is some slop in the mounts.

I haven't painted mine, but I don't believe a properly applied paint job will have a noticeable effect on the flight characteristics.
