Has anyone changed the vernier style throttle in a Kitfox 2 to a friction style? And what one did you use ? ACS has ones listed but they start at 3 feet , can you just get a solid wire one and cut it shorter ?

yes, if it is solid wire, you can just cut it. We changed out the one on my brothers piper short wing death trap and we just picked one up from the local outfit for our "airboat" cost about 1/3 as much as the AC one and is identical sans the PMA sticker. Had to cut it down, but it is very easy to do and works great.

I got this one from Aircraft Spruce:

http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/appages/rotaxdualthrottle.php

I replaced mine hoping that it would feel more like the throttle that I got used to in my training in a Cessna. I'm not entirely satisfied with the result. The throttle cable is the flexible type that can only pull against a spring return that wants to pull the throttle open. Unfortunately, the spring is at it's highest tension in the idle position so the friction has to be set fairly high to overcome it. That makes for a stiff throttle unless I tweak the friction knob every time I move the throttle.

I suppose that I could get used to it but it seems to me that this arraignment is much more likely to result in an accidental wide open throttle condition which I find scary. Then again, I'm a chicken.

Perhaps with the solid type cable, you can forgo the spring return and avoid the problem but I have no idea.

Luis ,

That kind might work but I think suited for the 912s.

The 582 have a bellcrank up front that joins the 2 carbs and the oil injection cable. Only needs to be about 2 feet long or less.
Thanks
