Fred,
One of the conditions for such a small wheel is: can it support the speeds we use to have during landing and take off. Ask the manufacturer if he can warrant for these speeds.
Best regards,
Karel Vranken.

Subject: outrigger wheels
Guys...I've been looking into substitutes for the kit-provided
outrigger wheel, and thought I'd found the answer with a Colson
Performa wheel which comes w/ sealed ball bearings. After Kingsley
acquainted me w/ the distinction between "sealed ball bearings" and
"maintenance-free precision ball bearings" I found the following in
the McMaster catalogue (I hope the text and graphics gets thru the
matronics server). This "Easy-Roll Rubber-Tread Wheel" (McMaster part
# 2439T42) which comes with "maintenance-free precision ball bearings"
has a ridiculous low price of $7.81. I've queried McMaster, and they
confirm that yes, it does come w/ these bearings. I'm wondering if
anyone has tried them and can comment on their performance.
Or...has anyone found the ultimate outrigger wheel?

bearings...I've yet to determine whether they are double-shielded, or
double-sealed. They require a 3/8" shaft, so a sleeve bushing would be
required in order to stay with the 5/16" bolts.
I'm wondering if anyone has tried them and can comment on their
performance. Or...has anyone found the ultimate outrigger wheel?

Karel...good point.
If my math is correct, those little puppies rev up to just over 5000
rpm when traveling at 60 mph. Elsewhere on the McMaster site is a
chart for "precision ball bearings" which rates the lowest grade at
5000 rpm. So...IF the so called "precision ball bearing" in the wheel
I cited is what they say, it should be ok...it's worth checking w/ the
manufacturer which I will do.
What wheels do you use?
