Hi
Yesterday was a red letter day as I put my canopy on for the last time and glassed it into the door frame. I am no looking at riveting up the side flanges to the fuse. I do have a question however. The plans suggest sealing the rear canopy flange to the tail cone forward top skin to prevent leaks.
Is there any need to do something similar to the side flanges that fit inside the fuse skins and rest on top of the longerons?
Inquiring minds need to know…..

Les,
I think most people are putting a layer of fiberglass over the rivet line to hide the pull rivets, which effectively water proofs this area. Congratulations on getting the canopy anchored. Now you can get on to fitting the doors. Have fun with that.

Hi Jim
I was wondering about glassing that rivet line.
If the truth be known, I have my doors fitted already. I just clecoed the
top on while fitting the doors. This, as it turns out, was a good thing as
it allowed the port door sill (fibreglass) to be relocated about 1/8"
inboard so my door seals weren't compressed too much. This makes the door
very easy to close. I expect as the seals get a memory it will be easy
still. FYI, I am using the McMaster Carr seals and had them installed when
fitting the doors.
I all I have to do now is to adjust the door gap and then I can move on to
something that doesn't involve sanding.
Cheers
Les

Is this the Fiberglass tape that everyone is using to hide those rivet
lines on the side of the canopy and cowling?

Phil,
I used 2 oz. tape for this. Heavier(thicker) tape is going to make it harder to get a smooth transition from the canopy to fuselage. I also used 2 oz. to cover the hinge rivet lines on the cowling and control surface fairings.

Bill,
I got the 2 oz. tape from my local West Systems dealer, although it is not a West System product. I think most any fiberglass supplier will have it.
