Well, after calling Pete at jab we pulled the head off and inspected everything. The heads look fine to me. The valve springs function without indicating any sticking. Looking inside the cylinder there are a couple areas of rough spots you can palpate with your finger tips. We also found out what was making the noise - so we think - the piston hitting the wall of the cylinder.
I did not have time to remove the cylinder - did not have a tool to access this. We are going to the field in few hours to remove the cylinder and make another call to Pete.

Hi Michael
I believe there were some engines that did not have sufficient piston to bore clearance and that produced some sort of noise. The engine I heard of was a early hydraulic lifter one before the camshaft and lifters were altered

Keith

assuming I am the Doug you are asking, I dont exactly know what is going on.
I think the rings are sticking tho. Since the engine has so little time on it, I wonder if it has been sitting for some time and the assembly lube has stopped doing its job.
I was wrong about the valve sticking. The head looked perfect.

Hey, Doug.. or anyone else with experience with dis-assembly. We spent 5 hours today trying to get the # 6 cylinder off. Using the called out 7/16" Crow's foot did not work that well. The nuts seemed like they were WAY more than 30ft lbs. The bottom left nut would NOT come off. The Crow's foot ended up slipping off several times ROUNDING the nut - and eventually rounding the Crow foot. Now I am in a BAD situation! I may end up going to a welder tomorrow to have them make me a tool with a 6 point socket with the right geometry to get in there.... VERY FRUSTRATING day!

Michael,
I posted the proper tool numbers for both Snap On and Proto a couple of days ago. As you found out the crows foot is NOT the right tool.
