How many of you have removed the wobble pump and put in an electric? Those who have are you using that Facet pump?
Is it worth the trouble?

I have replaced the wobble pump and primer with the big Facet pump, don't use the little solid state pump. The bigger one has a filter and is just better. The best thing it does is it gets all the fuel out of the cockpit. And you can just use a button to control the primer when starting. No more Chinese fire drill with the primer. Its one of the best mods I have done and pretty easy. You can also as I did tie it in for an aux fuel pump in case the mechanical goes Tango Uniform.

I have and love it. No more wobbling, priming and starting is easier. In case of a pump failure, with a flick of a switch, I have fuel and can concentrate on flying the plane. Great mod if done properly. Need correct hose size, pump with correct flow rate and if using it to prime, check valves or diverter valve.

We replace the wobble pump with a Facet electric pump that has an internal check valve (very important!). We incorporate a prime/boost solenoid with a momentary up/on down switch. The end game is the wobble pump and primer are replaced with an electric boost pump improving safety and usability. On our refurbs we also cut new blank right side panels and have our CB panel on the right side where the primer location was...out of the way yet still in plain sight.
As others have said, this is first and foremost an important improvement in safety in emergency situations, and secondarily a huge step forward in convenience. We also locate the prime/boost switch right next to the engine start switch so you no longer need 3 hands to start the airplane.
That gives me a thought. I have to test fly an airplane we just put new fuel tanks in...I'll try to remember to do a simulated engine out and see how well I can continuously operate the wobble pump and aviate, navigate, and communicate. I'm tired and nearly upside down just writing that...wish me luck!

If anyone has a parts list/skematic drawing based on their lessons learned
from having done this for fuel pump/primer, it would be greatly appreciated.
I hate re-learning things that people on this list already know.

We use Facet 476088 in Aircraft Spruce, under fuel pumps. I would not be using a plastic bowl anything in an aircraft.

Hello All,
I appreciate all the feedback!
While I understand the plumbing of the CJ fuel system I don't fully understand the plumbing associated with some of the great ideas I've seen posted. I knew that an electric pump can replace the wobble pump but I'm not sure how some of the systems I've seen posted work. In particular the use of the electric pump to replace the primer as well. It seems from reading a couple of the posts that the electric pump is switched on to allow prime which is then controlled by a solenoid activated by a momentary switch, THEN shut off after engine start unless the engine driven pump quits.
Here's what I think I know from the posts:
The pump is installed with a primer line downstream. The pump has an on/off switch. The primer line has a solenoid controlled by a momentary switch. Not sure about any additional check valves, by pass etc.
Would anyone care to share a plumbing and electrical schematic? I'm sure it would be a great asset for the list (it would be for me for sure)
In any case, thanks for sharing ll the pump info.

Keith,
There is a fair amount of hard line plumbing involved to do it right, along with some special fittings that we have designed for this use. I don't mean to insinuate you cannot do it other ways, we've just determined for longevity and a lower potential for problems hard lines and machined fittings are the way to go. We are installing 3 more of these for customers and once we have those completed we can make a kit for you. I'll have a better idea on pricing once we have these 3 installs complete.
