To Rick Volker - thanks for the extra figures - that makes a lot more sense.
Certainly the figures from Kevin Kimball make a lot of sense, and are broadly in line with my own experience.
I am however surprised that there should be less thrust from a MTV-260-29 than from a 250. Certainly the tests that we have done with MT showed that the 260 gives significantly more static thrust, but loses out a bit in terms of top speed.
I was also interested that Rick says that the MTV-9 is slower than the V-530, whereas Kimball says the reverse, and again that is my experience.
The practicality is that the V-530 is fifty year old technology, and obviously things have moved on.

I would like to offer some information on the Dynamic balancing of these props. All of these props should be able to be dynamically balanced. Even the 530 without a spinner. I have balanced many 530’s without spinners with no problem, even down to .01 - .03 ips. As long as the prop and engine are functioning properly the can be balanced. If any of the props don’t seem to want to balance and you are for sure that the prop is in good working order and set up properly, then the problem will most likely be with the engine.

My figures suggest that the MTV9-260-29 had the highest thrust. The power-on stall speed with the MTV9-260-29 was not measurable and listed as < 50 kph because the aircraft was hovering in place. While the GT 250 would barely hover in a slip, the MTV 9 would do so in a vertical orientation.
The MTV9 had the highest climb rate, vertical penetration, and time on vertical, all by a significant margin over the GT250. This falls in line with what you and Kevin have found.
My Sukhoi has the 360 hp engine. After repeated tests, the MTV9-260-29 was slower than the V530 at max. cruise and full power settings. I did not test other power settings. It is likely that a 400hp engine will use more of the MTV9-260-29's longer blades to change the results toward what you have experienced. There is some variability in actual horsepower produced my different M14P engines. My M14P has less than 50 hr TT since new and may be producing more or less horsepower than spec. I suspect this particular example is stronger than average. I do not plan on dynamometer testing, so will have to assume 360 hp.
