Was the knocking noise in the cylinder while slowly rotating the prop ever identified specifically?

I also would like to hear more about this. Could any noise come from the linkage of the mechanical fuel pump that happens to be holding fuel pressure by the internal spring ? I don't know how much clearance this would create and be heard by turning the prop slowly. I hear things coming from inside the crankcase, not loudly though.
