Geoff Combs (Aerosport Products) stopped by today with my new carbon fiber overhead console. I must say that I was rather impressed with the quality and fit. It fits perfectly, so I won't have to do all the sanding and filling that others have done with the fiberglass overheads. It's also significantly lighter than the fiberglass overheads too. Since it's hot off the press, or should I say vacuum bag, the access panels, air vents, and clothes hangar haven't been installed yet.

Bob,

Wow! That looks fantastic. My memories of fitting the overhead console that came with my air conditioning kit are pretty grim.

So is the pink top a little better finished than the green one?

Actually, there isn't much to do on the pink cabin cover. At least nothing
that the headliner won't cover easily. Granted, I've not done the doors or
windows yet. I've only seen one of the green ones and pink ones are quite
an improvement.

What I was referring to, but didn't articulate well, was the fit of the
overhead to the various compound curves around the hinge area, the big lip
just behind the doors, and the aft bulkhead area. One the fiberglass
overhead that I saw, it required quite a bit of tweaking and filling to get
it to fit well. Also, because it's carbon fiber, there is less of a
transition to fill between the top and the overhead. If you are going to
put in a head liner, you probably won't have to worry about that either.

Nice job on the overhead Geoff. My new pink cabin top and cowling looks really good even if it is not a manly color. Finishing up inventory and will start on empennage tomorrow. So far only one bag of hardware missing after inventory of finish and fuselage kit. DB Schenker delivered 5 crates in perfect condition! Van's did a great job on the crates, packaging, parts counts.

For the builders with the pin hole problem you might want to try a product
called Spread and Spray made by Pittsburg paint. It is used by Piper because
their fiberglass cowls are pretty rough. It was suggested by our paint shop
for use prior to the first flight or engine start.

That looks a whole lot easier than the work I have put into fitting the Accuracy overhead to a green top. They don't line up, the contours don't match, not a good time. Too bad this wasn't available when I got mine.

I did a search on the web for it and can't find it. Another name, perhaps?
