Thank you Tim for the heads up on the Voyager Black Friday special! I went
with the lifetime EFB deal for $599. For that price it won't take long for
it to pay for itself. Not that bad of a gamble no matter what. Yes, there
is no guarantee on company solvency, but there is no guarantee on our life
either - every day is a blessing, or we can choose to make it something
else!

The whole idea of needing a GPS for the Cherokee we lease
also prompted me to get another tablet yesterday. Got a
Motion LE1600 for $340. Upgrading to an SSD and I'll
still have less than $600-700 into it. I would love to
have a new Garmin 560 handheld, but at $1999 for the
unit, and then STILL having to buy updates in the long
term, it just wasn't worth it.
I figure for the yoke if I can find an old Garmin 196 or 296
for real cheap, I won't keep an updated DB in that, but
just have it always there for navigating, and then keep
the tablet in that plane for all charts, routing,
airport info and flight planning. Once you have the
subscription, you can put it on your desktop/laptop for
flight planning, and on a tablet or office PC too.
