What is the disadvantage of this type of door?
I see less worry about door opening/falling off in flight...see stolspeed.com.
Easier flip/slid open window section modification.
No worry's about gas drips... sorry Tommy!
Easy to take off/on
Tell me the down side

It needs to clear the strut. Correct?

I built from plan in 94 and designed my own flip-ups because they are easier
to deal with while docking on floats. Also two of my friends who built from
kits had issues with their swing doors interfering with the wing strut.
I agree with the disadvantages you listed. I resently installed buble doors.
They do increse elbow room, are more riggid and look nicer. However they may
create low preasure areas under the wing (not good for lift) and increase
drag. I have not been able to prove this as I foolishly destroyed my old
doors.

The reason I mentioned the interference with the strut is that I saw a CH701
with a notch out of the lower rear corner of the door. It looked like it
was there so the door would clear the strut. This door mod created a gap
when the door was closed. It looked like an afterthought.

The Bearhawk has the same problem, Barrows designed a little hinged
alum.flap to clear the strut and seal the door. I have a set of Bearhawk
drawings, if anyone gets really serious about going this way I'll dig out
that drawing for them.

Also if you check the old drawing and compare it to the new drawings... you will
notice that the doors are a bit shorter on the old... Ron

The drawings I have show the older door opening slightly longer.
