Hello Malcom,
I will try to explain what I did with my 701's doors... Just like the old builders say: "If you modify just a little the building plans, you add several hours more to the building process".
I had the original doors ėn the kit, my idea was always to build the plane as close to the plans as posssible, BUT there were in the list the first photos of the bubble doors... So we decided to use our same doors and just bend some more the center tube to increase the shoulder area, GREAT! we did it and when installed the cabin was very confortable, we smiled.
The problem was that when we tried to install the (kits) doors holder on the wing, the bending of the doors will not let it lock. so the door will not hold open in place.
Then we decided to put the gas springs, look around to find a pair, design and make the custom support, etc...
So just to make a little bend in the door, added lots of hours to the simple door instalation...
The good side is that the door works great and the cabin is wider. Hope this helps.
Saludos

Chris a subsidiary question. My copy of 6-ATO-1 shows the door as a flat
panel, but some of the photos I've seem indicates diagonal folds in the
door (presumably to reduce drumming) I would appreciate clarification.
