Recently found out about the technique of hollowing out the existing light bulb and then using the core as receptacle for American bulb. Don't know the bulb size though???

If you are speaking of the Yak 52 bulbs, you can use a #327 28 volt bulb. However, the Osram 3899 is a direct replacement for the original Russian bulbs (gear and flaps).
