Does any data exist regarding the history of the engine driven fuel pump operating without failure between overhaul cycles? Not saying that an electric back-up system is not warranted or a good idea. It makes perfect sense to have a back-up plan. Just wondering how many failure incidents have been noted since the CJ has been flying in North America.
Just as a sidebar, gear type hydraulic pumps utilized in mobile equipment applications can operate several thousand hours before replacement or failure. Of course, we’re talking about something that has pressure and wear compensation built into the design. In the hydraulic equipment we manufacture, I can not think of the last time a pump failed because of a mechanical issue. Sludge for oil…yes. But, pure mechanical failure…not too common.
