I know some folks don't like Yahoo but I subscribe to both and a recent post has made me go, Aaaah…now there's something I should have noticed.
Check out the pictures posted by Roger, a UK Jabiru maintenance friend of mine.
The 'quadrant' added by Jabiru to change the 'pull direction' on the choke (starting carburettor) slide valve stops the full travel of the valve from what it would have if it was limited by the travel of the metal lever that the quadrant is bolted to. A long sentence and grammatically very poor but it does say what I mean.
I have always subscribed to the 'not rich enough' concept of poor starting rather than 'not fast enough' which can be the case but not with my engine which whirrs like a dervish.
The choke position maybe a contributory factor in many cases. Haven't tried it yet as the plane is always starting at the moment.
There is a post to go with it:
