looking for a cowl to fit my 601hds with a corvair but i can probably modify some others to fit. maybe even a damaged one. thanks ralph

Isn't the firewall on the HDS the same shape as the XL? The standard solution for many Corvair powered planes (including XLs) is William Wynne's generic nose bowl and metal fairings back to the firewall. I believe he sells the metal parts pre-made now. This does raise the question - whose motor mount design are you using?
You could also ask your question on the Corvair list:
