Gentlemen,

Larry Pine and I have been outfitting my CJ for night flight with wing strobes and a red strobe for the top of the rudder. We were also planning on replacing that anemic, barely visible flashlight bulb on the tail with a LED position light / strobe from Aveo Engineering.

Last week on the Internet I came across what appeared to be an exact LED drop-in replacement for the Chinese bulb. It's 24 volt, LED cluster that has the same bayonet base, draws very little current, is astonishingly bright and basically lasts forever. This would also be a direct, drop-in replacement for those three lights on the nose gear and mains. This particular LED arrangement has viewing angle of 90 degrees, so it is brightest when viewed mostly from straight ahead. Here is where I found this:

www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2Fother_bulbs.htm

The web site navigation is a little confusing and flat-footed, but basically what you would be looking for is the 24 volt, white, dual contact, single intensity, 15 mm 1142 bayonet base. The ordering designation is: 1142-W15-24V White LED bulb - 24V.

A few days ago my order arrived and last night we tested the landing gear and tail lights in place. Wow!

I've attached a picture of what this looks like installed. For about six bucks each they are the cheapest upgrades I've installed to date.
