I was already thinking about that too.  Maybe wrapping a piece of weather stripping around the inside would help without adding too much resistance.  The spring looks a bit wimpy though and any resistance might stop it.  Pure speculation here of course.

I'm not too worried. An inventive -10 builder is going to come up with a 

mechanism to tie the safety latch to the existing door handle. Until 

then, i think a zip tie would look more aesthetically pleasing.
