Roger:
I meant to reply to you on this subject, but forgot. I have and Allegro 2000
with a Rotax 912UL engine (300 hours). The four engine mount bolts on my
plane were torqued and safety wired when I mounted the engine. The safety
wire is still in place and there are no signs that the bolts have loosened.
Do you feel that I should cut the safety wire and check the torque, then
re-safety wire?

Hi All,
Just an FYI.
Make sure you put a torque wrench on your 4 engine ring mount bolts at
every annual or 100 hr. inspection if you use the standard Rotax engine
mount. I keep finding them a little loose. Rotax manual has you torque
them to 30 ft/lbs. The top left bolt is the only bolt you will need an 8mm
ball end allen wrench. The other 3 you only need an 8mm flat tipped allen
wrench.

Hi Hugh,
You should not have to do this if these were torqued to 30 ft/lbs at the beginning and the safety wire should keep these from loosening. If they are not safety wired for any of the other guys who read this and have that type of engine ring mount they should be torque checked every 100 hrs or annual which ever comes first. These do come loose and I have found many that are 1-4 turns loose and this will let the engine sag and move around under different throttle settings. If you get at least 3 bolts loose you can pick up the plane out by the prop and the engine will wiggle. This situation will start to trash the threads in the bolt holes.
