Hello gang!

Hey any advice on how to repair this gill attachment bar?

Or how to replaces them... I'm talking about the thingy that holds the bar in place and that connects to the engine pistons. please see the attached picture.

It broke during a 8 G vertical pull.

JC,

You can make the "thingy". It's not that hard. The "thingy" is just an aluminum tube that has had its ends squeezed and bent, than holes drilled at the ends. Its kind of important on how long they are and angles of the bends, but super dup per wise. Any A&P could make one of these "thingy" in less than an hour. HOWEVER I happen to have some of those "thingys" that I could not use when I replaced the gill system on CJ-6. 8Gs???? Man that must have hurt.

8 G's? I'd continue to look for broken things and loose rivets. Especially at the belly, center of the wings.

Plus if that was my airplane, from that picture, I'd say I was out of oil. Wink

I would like to know where you got that nice looking seal on the outer ring, mine...well I'm embarrassed to call it a seal.

Try an aircraft upholstry shop. They can make one for you. The fun part will be mounting it on the ring.

I have the new outer ring w/seal in stock for the CJ6, but you would have to change out the metal plates which hold the ends of the gill vane pivot rods.  The CJ6 uses a T type end on the rods, while the Yak uses a C/S straight slot type end.  Other than that difference they are the same.

I think the "thingy" connected to the "piston" broke during an 8 G landing.

But that's just me.

Thank you all for your suggestions!!!

I will try to briefly reply to everyone:

I apologize for not knowing the proper term for the part that Iā€™m seeking (I still donā€™t)ā€¦

The plane is a Yak-55 (build for 9 Gā€™s), and while doing Vertical rolls I normally do the initial pull at 7 or 7.5 Gā€™s. In this Particular time I heard a metallic ping, discontinued flight and after taking the cowlings off I saw the ā€œGill Barā€ broke at the base.

I was also wondering if there was something that looks sturdier (like some 52-TWs) as
Doug suggested.

Iā€™ll have to go next weekend and measure them and I may need a couple.

The nice looking seal on the outer ring came with the planeā€¦ sorry ļŠ
