Since I have them out of the plane right now I am considering remaking my floorboards out of another material other than wood. Anyone have any ideas what material works as well as wood? Or should I just keep the wood floorboards.

Thanks
Bryan

Bryan, that wood that is supplied with the kit is pretty good quality stuff and very tough. Why do you want to change them?

Bryan,

I agree with Deke. I helped with a Lancair project and they use honecomb
cored composite for the floorboards. That stuff is great, but would cost an
arm and a leg for maybe an ounce of weight savings.

I used wood paneling from an old house... Very light weight but sturdy enough to put velcro patches to hold carpet in place.
But i did consider going to the local household store and grabbing a cheap clothes basket and using that plastic bottom.

Bryan I have such big feet I have to fly with no shoes that is what the pic is from the pads for my feet but I used counter top skin from Home depot for the dash and floor to match I put it over the floor that the kit came with, it did add a pound or two but I feel it looks better,

I have thought of replacing the floorboards some day down the line so I might as well tell you all my idea and see what the reaction is. I considered using plexiglass or acrylic sheeting and then replacing the fabric with a transparent material. Just an idea but I think it would be fun to be able to see through the floorboards, maybe it is just a helicopter thing.
