Hi there friends

I have suffered from the dreaded Hydraulic Lock....

Now I would like to remove the #4 link rod out of the Master Rod.

See the attached diagram.

The engine is still in place.

From the diagram, it would seem that the two rings need to come off both sides and then the question is will the pins come out? are they a pressed fit? if they are is there some diagram of a puller that one could make that could pull the pin out?

Any advice and help would be really appreciated!

Cylinder #4 does not have a link rod. It is the master rod (#1 in the diagram). The link rods (#5 in the diagram) are connected to the other 8 cylinders and to the lower end of the master rod. Note the 8 holes in the round, lower section of the master rod (#1 in the diagram).

As Dennis pointed out No. 4 is the master rod. If it is bent then
you have a very serious problem and it will not be fixed in the field.
You are correct that both retaining rings need to be removed. The
pins are a press fit and they only go in one way as well as in one clock
position. You will have to pull several cylinders around the offending one
to get at things. It is not a job for the faint of heart. I know of several
people who have changed a bent rod in the field and have done it myself on
an AI-14. You will have to make a tool to press the pin out and to press it
back in the replacement rod. I loaned the one I made to someone several
years ago. Now I cannot remember who it was and obviously they did not
bother to return it.
If the engine was run with the bent rod you may have more serious
problems as it puts metal fines throughout the engine

I am looking for an idea of where I can get one or what it looks like so I could make one....knowing I am here in South Africa....
