So I've got the upgrade kit on hand. I've removed the solid rivets from the center section and the left wing and I've removed the angle on the top of the wing spar.
Soon I'm gonna have to put it all back together and I need some advice.
There's no one around that has a rivet gun and I've never bucked rivet one, so I'm in the position of having to buy the tools anyway
I'm actually leaning toward a rivet squeezer instead of a gun/bucking bar.
it seems like the learning curve is way smaller with a squeezer than a gun, and since I'm teaching myself on my spars I'd like to just get it right the first time
The squeezer shown is a Atlantic Aircraft Tools Tandem Alligator 3" Deep Rivet Squeezer 1/4" Rivet Set Dies Its a tandem cylinder unit which means it has enough oomph to squeeze the spar rivets and the jaws have enough room to reach around the angles at the top of the spar
used its about $300

Sound's like the best way to go for you , good gun and bucking bar are going to cost that much plus knowing to use it. with a squezer you'll set it by looking at the other rivets, and you don,t need another person to buck for you Take your time and Happy re-building Joe (one wing re-built ,re primed and repainter ( a new color, and design)It's like getting a new plane! Enjoy what you have to do...P.S. The wing is a hell of a alot stronger now

Rivet squeezer and gun/bucking bar are not the only way to drive solid rivets to the spar. I'm using an harbor press, it works well and is the cheaper method. I created a jig that holds the spar in the right position and angle in relation to the harbor press.

William,
Do you have any picture of the jig and rivet die you are using?

Here is a link showing the tools I used, 1 ton Arbor Press, 3 lb rawhide hammer, faces from one of the hydraulic squeezers from ACS, and a rubber cushion.
