James,
I haven't had the occasion to need to manually advance the engine for inspection or otherwise. I just "bump" the starter. The clutch does make it start easier and "idle" much smoother although I've had problems rejetting and adjusting the idle low enough (below 2500 rpm) to keep the prop from engaging. As soon as it's warmed up, it idles at about 2500 and the prop spins away. I've learned to live with it.
My main concern is the engine out situation, drag and drastically increased sink-rate that I expect will result from a free-wheeling prop. One of these days I'll climb to about 5000 agl (over the field), cut power and discover exactly what happens. Alot of people have speculated on this but I don't think we have any real data on it yet.

Marco, I see you are using a clutch on the 582. I thought about this since it is supposed to make low RPM idle very nice but I decided against it since I would have no way to manually advance the engine for checking the cylinders, hand propping, etc. Have you found this to be an issue or does it not affect your flying?

I can give you real info on the free wheeling prop.. cuts the glide ratio to that of an anvil. The easier cold starts, warm up and idle make it worth the trade off to me.
I can turn the idle down on mine till she dies. Stock jetting rotax calls for. I have mine set to idle at 1600- 1650 and she is smooth smooth.
