Curiosity question, when flying at lower altitude and lower power settings with a 914 where you are developing 912 type of power, is fuel flow for a given % power setting effected by instead of leaving the TCU on where it is in control of wastegate servo, jog the wastegate servo till it is fully opened, then turn off the TCU?
Thx.

Simple question - why?
The TCU will open the wastegate when it needs to be opened and close it when it doesn't - I cannot see it will affect fuel flow significantly to jam it open when MAP is the important factor, not wastegate position.
My 5 cents

Hi Barry
The answer to why, is my curiosity if leaving the wastegate closed, where exhaust energy is being used to pressurize the intake is more efficient in terms of fuel flow for a given MP compared to leaving the wastegate opened where there is no backpressure. I know pressurizing intake will create more power, but when operating like a normal aspirated 912, in terms of efficency, are you better off leaving wastegate closed? Opened? or perhaps makes no matter?
Thx.

I'm not sure about the fuel consumption, but you can disable or remove the TCU and control the wastegate with a cable. I know of two 914 SeaReys that have flown that way for many years, and I've flown one of them, myself. The amount of boost is manually controllable from none (that is, 912 performance) to the maximum, a MP of about 50 inches. Rotax limits the boost to about 40 inches for 5 minutes and 35 inches continuous, so you'd want to pay attention to those limits.
