Is there any reason why you couldn’t/shouldn’t enlarge the brake like entrance holes in the forward part of the tunnel cover?
It seems to make sense to open that area up a bit and eliminate the opportunity for chafing.

I did it also. Not a bad idea also to wrap the entry area with silicone tape.
