I have grave concerns following the OSH fatal prang a couple years ago. The Europa concerned was on a first-time approach during the fly-in. The aircraft was on short final crosswing on final turn when it spun too low for recovery.
This si not to denigrate the skills of the pilot, but he’s on a tight right for 27. I’ve been out there listening to the chat on freq, and many are asked by final field controller to “waggle for ident”. If the pilot had a tad of inside rudder on for correcting to centreline, and was asked to waggle – there you have a perfect stall storm – some inside rudder and you add bank for ‘waggle’ – inside wing slows to stall - spin entry for sure.
If asked to waggle – ensure the rudder neutral first.
