The original GRP classic console/instrument panel was destroyed by the previous owner of the mono classic kit i am building, they wanted to make more of a pilot and co-pilot version but thier attempt was pretty bad. Does anybody have any suggestions for making one, other than trying to buy a new one (not sure if the old console type will still be available). Was one of the issues that its not very good for servicing?

Hello Graeme,
I think you'll find the instrument panel didn't change for the later model (XS) so should be available from the factory (I shudder to think what it might cost, though!)
Some folk have made up their own panels but I stuck to the original as most people have done, and have found it has space for all the kit that I wanted - which is pretty comprehensive.
It can be a fiddly job removing and refitting the thing unless you make some changes. I have mounted the standard "six-pack" of instruments on a removable panel and, once this is out of the way I can access all of the various connections thro' the gap. This means I can remove the entire panel in about 30 - 35 minutes. Replacing it takes a few minutes longer.
The factory offer alloy plates to mount the clocks and things on - so it's not a big job to convert the standard set-up.
Good luck with the build - it's well worth the time and effort, believe me!
Regards,
Ron Jones.
