Hello, all

After four months away from the project (thanks to work - but at least we won the contract), I have been back to the project.
The skin for the rear fuse has been cut, and most of it polished - see attached.
The long pieces (sides of the CH601-HD rear fuse) too about 12 hours each.

I have been looking into avionics, mostly as education: If it takes me another two years to finish, it's very likely that better/cheaper products will be out by the time I am ready to buy.
There are some very interesting products out there, and a particular one caught my attention for having lots of functionality at a fair price.
The company is TL Elektronic, from the Czech Republic. Their products are sold by Spruce and Pacific Coast Avionics (that I know of).
However, searches on the Matronics lists produced no results, which surprised me. The product does not seem to be that new - as far as electronics go - as the manual dates back to 2008.
My question: is any of you folks familiar with the product / company? http://www2.tl-elektronic.cz/index.php?page=lsa&p_id=20

An observation: while it seems a glass panel is cost-justified for IFR, a steam gauge panel is still the cheapest approach for VFR.
Comments?
Happy building
Carlos

1) I'm extremely dubious of having nothing but a glass panel. I want enough
stuff to get the airplane on the ground, cockpit side up, if there's a power
failure. Thus, I plan to have at least an ASI, altimeter, tach, wet compass,
and maybe a couple of other steam gauges.

2) Obviously, the cost tradeoff depends on which unit you buy. I've been eyeing
MGL avionics unit:

http://www.mglavionics.com/

I haven't done a line by line comparison, but it looks to me as though I can
either beat the cost of the remaining steam gauges, or come close. I'm looking
at the Enigma, which is the bottom of the line unit.

That unit comes with a built-in gps, and a transponder encoder. With a hand-
full of sensors, and their interface unit ("rdac"), I can replace the rest of
the steam gauges I must have with that unit, and be in the $3,000 range. I
also have a good path for future expansion for things like artificial horizons,
EGTs, etc etc.

3) I hadn't heard of the unit you cite, but after looking at it, for my
personal needs/wants, I'm still primarily interested in the MGL unit.

Carlos,

It looks like you are planning to comb your hair and shave in your hanger !! ( ;>) Good job !!

You don't have to think steam gauges OR glass. I wouldn't give up a GPS whether IFR or VFR and an electronic engine monitor sure takes up less panel space than a bunch of steam gauges. But I also personally prefer to look at traditional round flight instruments.

I suggest you consider what suits you, your training and your flight experience, not what others think is currently cool. Imagine yourself actually USING those instruments, not just what they LOOK like. And base your panel on your NEEDS, not your WANTS.

Off the soapbox.

Jay
