Kolbers, Bob Dresden here. Getting ready to 4 cycle the Firestar II
with the HKS. I'd like to keep the trial and error part to a minimum
if I can. Soooo, I'm hoping I can tap into this great knowledge base
we've got here. I've talked with Larry C about his install, got some
great insights into this endeavor. I'll be doing the type II exhaust
and horizontal carbs, 3.47 gearbox. I'm fishing for photos, hints,
what I'd do different next time, all this good stuff. Where do all
those oil lines go, any mounting options for tank and cooler, anyone
with a type II setup care to comment on noise level? I certainly
appreciate all replies. Thanks in advance.

Bob,
I don't know if you got much response. Not too sure that there are all that many HKS's out there. My prop clearance is only 5/8th of an inch, would like more, probably quieter, but that is what I have. Not real interested in cutting my Warp drive prop. So far I have 82 hours on the engine. If there is anything else that I can tell you, I would be glad to do so.
Larry

Bob,
I've got an HKS on a Firestar. I bought it from Jerry Olinek (at) Greensky Aviation & had him install it for me. I have the Type 5 exhaust and it's a quiet engine. the oil tank on mine is mounted above the fuel tanks. I would prefer to have it somewhere else, but the way my FS is set up with a BRS there is no other place it would work.
If you have not purchased an engine yet, you may want to consider buying one from Jerry. He has done a few Kolb installs, is very knowledgable, and has advised a few other Kolb owners on doing their own installs. The prices are all the same whether you buy one from him or somewhere else, so you may as well get one from a dealer with Kolb installation experience.
I've got about 103 hrs. on mine to date and it runs great. I've got some photos I'd be happy to send you off-line, and if you need any other info on my set up I'd be glad to share. Just email me direct, jdy100(at)comcast.net.
