I once wrote an email to this august group that said I was in Buildus
Interruptus. This is a state of being that prohibits one from working on
the project. Reasons vary, such as a prolonged business trip, a bad cold or
flu, even the dreaded family vacation! How could anyone not see the logic
of working on the plane for two weeks straight? Why go somewhere else!
The interesting thing about this malady is that it proves RV (or other
plane) building / restoring is addictive. There cannot be any other
explanation. When I pack for a business trip, I make sure I have the next
10 pages of manual with me, reduced in size on my home printer so they will
fit in the briefcase. The manual is my breakfast reading, my bathroom
reading, and my bedtime reading. And the 10 manual is not even close to
being difficult, as were the manuals of lowered numbered RV's. Not even
close! Since I'm now working my way through planning the panel, I've taken
all the panel pictures that I can with me, studying the layouts, mentally
flying with each. Given that we fly with sticks, this activity can be
rather embarrassing in an airport lobby. Women tend to shoo their children
away from me.
But! There are ways to deal with such sickness. Instead of going through
the Buildus Interruptus withdrawal tremors, which have been known to become
quite disruptive to others who are so unfortunate as to be around the victim
during an episode, one can divert one's attention away from the symptoms to
such endeavors as web site building. If you think an early RV-3 manual is
tough, go down to your local B&N and buy two or three books on DreamWeaver
and Coldfusion. Yeow! And they are so thick! Thank the higher powers that
they give you a CD-ROM! Take one of those manuals on your next business
trip and the plane won't get off the ground.
Another way out of the tremors is to visit other builders' projects and,
rather than help, practice your disdainful tongue clucking noises, look down
through the bottom of your trifocals while making the ever so insidious,
critical, seemingly discreet touching motion with the index finger as you
scrutinize a specific imperfection. Ahhhh, the satisfaction of knowing that
you've created worry and doubt in a fellow builder's mind who is actually
building and not away from his/her project. Don't you just despise those
who can actually build while you, staving off tremors, must remain the
tourist, content to watch?
Yes, you've guessed correctly. This is day 8 away from the project. Eight
days of boredom and wasted building. I need back to the inner sanctum of
the workshop. I need back to my addiction.

Clearly John, my tri-focals will have to be reground to Progressives.
And now, only positive encouragement provided as an elixir to your
malaise. May the spectacular Oregon spring weather help in a speedy
recovery back to your hangar and the lonely rivets awaiting your
caressing touch.
Make's appreciation for Tim's vast contributions even that much more
impressive and humbling. Has anyone seen the great progress that Scott,
Ranae and Ray are doing lately with 100 days to go on N104XP?
I am still estimating 600 kits sold and 50 flying RV-10s at OSH this
summer.
Keep up the medicinal treatment.

<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> I think 600 kits sold might be an underestimate. I ordered mine at SNF and emp shipped last week. Kit # 40569.

It's my forecast. I'm sticking to it and the location is OSH '06 from
July 24 till the 30th. They won't all be there on the same day though.
But I will. It will be the best cross section of powerplants, cowls,
props, instrument panels, interiors and topcoats available in one
location ever.

Kit #40330 is the highest number kit now flying. Congrats again Debby.
There are more than 18 who have filed registration in the last six weeks
(all the way up into the 400th), which is a step toward DAR Inspection.
I am tracking 12 that are all scheduled for completion prior. Far more
who are staying off the radar screen like John Nys did with Randy's
progress last year. I'll buy a beer for every 10 builder who sandbags
my estimate at OSH and toast one for every one of the 50 who are there.
"the glass IS half FULL".
Oh yeh, and on the empty side... there has been less than a 0.40%
sellout rate of those abandoning the pursuit to date going all the way
back to James McClow. Rick, you are going to be missed.
Check Six!

Yes, Rick will be missed. 24 volt, Blue Mountain screens and probably
only 6 to 9 months from flying.
John C, It could be a long night toasting each of the 10 that show up at
OSH. Let me know when and I will help.
John J. For me, working on finishing up the canopy fit, it is difficult
to get pack into the garage and make more dust. It is pretty bad when
my new Permagrit sanding block in my new favorite tool.

We will again have out motor home at OSH and use it as a connecting point
for RV10 builders. When I know more details I will post.

We should let Tim do the wonderful job he did last year (if he is
willing)posting the participants and times. I promise not to spend most
of my time with the warbird group as last year. I will bring my credit
card for those who make it.

Hmm, I'm much more of a Tequila type. Won't be flying before OSH this year but certainly next year. We might have to have a little -10 get together up at my dad's grass strip about 30 north of OSH. Great little spot to camp and have a BIG campfire. hehe

I didn't have time for "the list" for SNF, but I will definitely do it
for OSH this year. For those who don't know what I mean, I have a
password protected list that I keep for OSH that will give builder
info including things like Cellphone numbers and your days you
plan to be at OSH. That way we can easily meet up with people
during the week. I'll start adding people to the 2006 list shortly.

Gary,
We also plan to be there in a motorhome (hopefully a couple days early).
Your location was great last year!
