I just read Porsche now has a lightweight Lithium battery option for the new Boxster Spyder. They claim it’s 22 pounds lighter than the standard job. I’d like to get a profile on the product. Over the counter I’d expect to pay big bucks just for the name. If anyone hears more about this, let us know. If I get a chance, I’ll stop by the dealer for more info.

As far as I know, the granddaddy of all lithium battery uses is the Tesla Roadster. Of course, they run the entire car on the battery, so it's a very different beast. I do know, though, that they get their batteries made by Panasonic. Given that, I'd say it's a very good bet that Panasonic makes the best lithium batteries available. Cost is not a huge issue for a $110K car, so they weren't scrimping.

May be worth looking into. You might be able to assemble your own from Panasonic parts. Hey, we're experimentals, right?

Absolutely,

If I could shave even 10 pounds off what my Odyssey battery weighs, that will make a difference. When you get down to it, this game is all about weight - keeping it off that is. I will find out what Porsche has done. Since they only use one battery, it will be interesting to learn about the expected capacity.

A while back Bill Dube mentioned he was offering a A-123 cell battery for aircraft use.

Yep, it's a bit pricey...

If my math is right, that works out to $77.00/pound. Not quite up to the rumored $100,000/pound that Formula 1 is willing to pay but still out of my budget.... Sad

I love it - Porsche throws in a lead acid battery just in case it gets a bit chilly for the lithium. At 13 pounds it's not a huge savings on the RG jobs.

Perhaps something like this:

It might not have enough urge, though.
