Summer has arrived in Michigan and the sun in the cockpit these days is intense! We have static cling sun shades that stick to the windows but they tend to fall down, especially from overhead. What have others done to get shade in the cockpit while flying?

Jim,

We use black semi transparent shades that fix with suction cups. They are intended for shading babies / children in the back seat of a car.  I got ours at Target.

Jim and Heather,
I just installed a set of sun shades that I bought from a vendor I met at Sun n Fun. They work great. I am at work and don't have the info with me right now, but I'll send you a link later. Mine were almost the size they sell for an RV7 or 9 I think. They are bronze in color, a screen like material dipped in what appears to be silicone or something. You can see through the mesh a little but it also shades. They shade very well and can't be blown off by prop wash when the doors are open. They are held on with suction cups about 1 inch in diameter. I have a small piece he gave me at Sun n Fun as a sample if you want it.

Hi Again,
The website for the sun shades I have is http://www.aero-shields.com/. Go to the shop online page and click on the general purpose page. Mine measure 10" x 24" ea. and cost a whopping $75.00 for the pair. They are very simple; material, grommets, with suction cups through the grommets, but I like 'em and they work good. Occasionally I may touch one of the backs of the suction cups with my headset if I lean to the side to look around. One of the guys at the field said I should have just gone to Wallyworld and bought a thing for cars, then he said he had had several blow away when he opened his canopy. Oh well. That's why we're experimental.....

Just today at the Arlington WA airshow, I saw a neat installation in
Dave DeFord & Terry Seaver's long winged mono...entirely flush on the
inside, and not susceptible to "blow off" w/ canopy open and engine
rev'ving. I have no details, and they will be offline until their
return home Sunday nite.

Fred

K,
About Gatton, if I pay $220K for land, there might be something to say I should reconsider the homes up for sale. The nuts and bolts fellow wanted $580K , or maybe it was $630K. Can't remember, but, what is the quote on your place again?
