I installed the metal spherical eye grommets on the firewall today for the control cables. The engine is on so this was an even more challenging task than normal. The first one was drilled right on the template...so I thought...but the holes on one end weren't even close. Took awhile to fix that. On the second one I figure I let the drill drift , or the template shifted on the first one. I was going to pay real good attention this time. Wasn't going to make the same mistake twice. Son of a *&#(at)^! Same results and more fixing of misplaced holes. Took a closer look at the template provided by the manufacturer and it was off on the length by 1/16". After a lengthy bout with Tourette's syndrome and some funny looks from the neighbors. Made my own template and the third went fine.
The template provided with the grommets from "Doubletree Manufacturing" is off! If you have any of these check it against the retainer and make your own template. Don't remember who the vendor was but it isn't really there fault. The products themselves are great, just watch your drilling locations. Sorry, for the long winded rant...I'm going for a beer, that'll help.
